Acne and Acne Scar Prevention

Acne occurs when a pore containing a sebaceous, or oil producing, gland becomes blocked with dirt and dead skin. Bacteria in the skin multiply within the blocked pore and oil builds up under the clog. Eventually the skin becomes inflamed and red, leading to pimples, sometimes cysts, and scarring.

As you probably already know, nearly everyone experiences acne from time to time — and usually, it’s not big deal. An ongoing acne problem, however, can eventually lead to scarring. Here are a few steps you can take in order to prevent acne and acne scars.

Try Acne Prevention Products. Prevention is the best cure – which is why stopping future breakouts is the best thing you can do if you wish to avoid long term scarring. Reduce stress, use noncomedogenic moisturizers and makeups, and don’t touch your skin. You can try over the counter products such as the MehrabiMD Acne Kit Bundle, or seek help from your dermatologist for a more tailored prescription regimen.

Don’t pop pimples. Popping pimples is a big no-no. These inflammation caused by trying to pop acne lesions can result in scarring and prolonged discoloration.

Avoid UV Exposure. Excessive exposure to the sun can lead to more damaging of the skin. This can prevent healing, leaving scars behind after breakouts. Limit your time out in the sun and be sure to wear sunscreen.

Seek Professional Treatment. There are many different ways to reduce scarring – so if over the counter products are not enough, speak with your dermatologist. Antibiotics, photodynamic therapy, and prescription medications are all options.

Acne Scar Removal. This is an option for those who already have visible scarring. Your dermatologist may use surgical methods in order to loosen the scarred tissue under the skin. Laser and filler treatments are other options. Consult a dermatologist to find out which treatment method is best for you.
